Programs for the save and load system?

Postby Datalore on Thu Jul 02, 2009 11:05 pm

Personally i use the warcraft 3 banlist to enter the commands, but i was wondering if there are any alternatives to that program, and if anyone is using them...

This is how I use it:

You can select any unit, and type "loc" to find its coordinates, and its spawn name. Then in the banlist, you would create a phrase and type
Code: Select all
sloc <xcoordinate>,<ycoordinate>

spawn 01 <unittype>

The extra spaces are neccecary because the banlist enters those characters into wc3 exactly as you enter them, so this is what would happen in the game:
Code: Select all
(enter) sloc <xcoordinate>,<ycoordinate> (enter)
(enter) spawn 01 <unittype> (enter)

Those are the basics... you can add other commands like 'fa, 'invulnerable, and give neutral, but always remember to enter just like you would in a regular game.

We have a more automatic method of saving a city. It is still very cumbersome, however.

Narks is still writing a tutorial for it.

This "convenient" system isn't really convenient if you need a stupid tutorial to learn how to use it. This is why I'm against such a faulty system since it has no consistencies to be reliant and/or convenient.

Go look for a way to actually make the REAL save and load to work as opposed to making a system that takes too long to manage.
1+1 = 2 Get that fucking straight.

Nobody is forcing you to use any system at all, Loki. Don't complain about the existing one, make a new one yourself if you don't like it.... unless you are paying them to make it for you?

Of course no one is forcing me, but it shouldn't stop me from voicing my own opinion (Which some people fail to do)
And you don't NEED to make a new system to make a game loadable, you have to check out the joints and knots of the code to figure out why it is unloadable in the first place.
My money is spent on things that are more worthy. LIke candy. Mmmm

No you.

If you're so awesome go do it yourself, don't give the those guys commands like you're the boss around here.

(If your brain couldn't comprehend that sentence, here 's the short version: "N0 Y0U".)

I wasn't giving out commands? I was giving out an explanation to Morse on why the hell SotDRP isn't loading in the first place.

Clearly you couldn't comprehend my post. "No u" indeed.

That wasn't really a command at all in the context that entire post was in. -_-

Come up something better than "No u" It's amazing how people still think it's the best comeback ever. Of course, your lack of creativity (How do you survive as an RP player in an RP clan, I'll never know), you would respond back with a "no u".

I don't believe this game should require a save code, cuz I know that with all the unique things you can do, the codes can become fairly strenuous to generate and even copy.

In ORPGs they just have to save one hero, and that by itself takes almost an entire line of a code for that one hero.

What would SotDRP generate with a save command? A freakin' book?

Honestly, I don't know how save codes actually work, length wise, so go ahead and criticize me for assuming off a hunch.

Anyway, SotDRP doesn't need save codes, but it would be plenty nice if the save game worked.

But that should be a problem that we should worry about later.
God in creating Man somewhat overestimated his ability.

That's very different for every ORPG out there.
It all depends on how well the coder can code and how much content the coder wants to be saved. Of course that much code dedicated to a single hero.

Unlike in SotDRP, it's not a single hero. It's the entire map.
