I'd just like to say, I'm coming from a similar situation.
I played WC3 forever (so much so, the cd died and I was too cheap to get a new one). Until WOW came out, that is.
I quit WOW 2-3 years ago and it wasn't until recently I found out I could play WC3 again through Blizzard's nice 'hay put in your cd keys redownload you games' program.
Recently I've been trying to RP again (I did a little bit of it way back then) and -- let me first say, it's never my fault.
It's astounding to me how bad bnet is (I guess I was oblivious to it): Most of the RPs I've joined over this last week and a half have been:
A) No theme
B) Theme is hitler vs space marines ww3 (c'mon guys that'll be awesome! amirite?)
C) Zombies!
But even if the host is slightly-competent, the games tend to end with me A) trying my best to work with a bunch of idiots B) building a city only for everyone to leave C) being the only one to build a city while everyone else builds a tent and tricks out their cool custom hero (naming them something cool like 'Soultheist' or 'Saske') all the while talking in broken American. It's always wasted effort on my part, and I've yet to have any enjoyable experience.
I'm just better off playing Tower Defense maps, (and maybe if I'm lucky, someone will host Dark Ages of Warcraft and I can pretend I'm RP'ing) I guess.
Am I alone in these thoughts?
